Anandabhairavi or Ananda Bhairavi is a very old melodious rāgam of Carnatic music. This rāgam has been used even in Indian folk music. Ānandam means happiness and the rāgam brings a happy mood to the listener.Wikipedia


The peace and happiness brought about by listening to this ragha, the agitation of the mind reflected by the rise in blood pressure is brought down to 120-80, is natural effect of listening to the raga and letting go! Feel happy and peaceful, contented with life and once application with faculties.

A typically classical ragathat thrives on melodic oscillations and majestic glides, Anandabhairavi spreads the feeling of joy and fulfillment. 


This raga's progression takes place on a zig-zag path, like a roller-coaster ride in musical notes. It features sadja, sadharana gandhara, chatusruti rishabha, suddha madhyama, pancama, and chatusruti dhaivata in ascent and also accomodates the kaisiki nishada in the descent. This is a raga that, in addition to the above-mentioned notes, features exotic foreign notes including the antara gandhara, suddha dhaivata, and kakali nishada. The net result is that sheer magic is created when this raga is handled - very many hues, many many moods, and wildly mystical musical spaces. The silence between musical phrases sometimes conveys much more to us than the phrases themselves and this aspect in music can be illustrated admirably through Anandabhairavi delineations which evoke Bhakthi, Karuna and Sringara rasas.


Thyagaraja's compositions in this raga include "Neeke Theliyaka" and "Ksheera Sagara Vihara". Dikshitar has composed a "Kamalamba" Navavarana in this raga, in addition to the well-known "Thyagaraja Yoga Vaibhavam". Shyama Sastri's compositions include "Marivere" and "O Jagadamba". This raga is sung in weddings to usher in auspiciousness.

Film music has gained a lot from Anandabhairavi. In "Karnan", in the piece "Poi Vaa Magale" by MSV-Ramamurthy, the lines "Thaai veedenbadhum than veeday" bear the stamp of this raga with its characteristic glide from pancama to the top sadja.


In the film "Aadhi Parasakthi" (music K V Mahadevan) the song "Naan Aatchi Seidhu Varum", sung by P Susheela, features various Devi Kshetras and it is indeed apt since the raga name itself is that of the Supreme Mother. The stage-by-stage progression of notes, first halting in madhyama in "Meenakshi endra peyar enakku" , and pancama in"Visalakshi...", and sadja in "Kamakshi"reflect the raga's lakshana precisely. 


Ilayaraja has used this raga in the film "Sri Raghavendra", the song "Parthale Theriyado Naekku", sung with an expressive twist by the actress Manorama.

The film "Duet" features a brilliant Anandabhairavi in the song "Mettu Podu", in the music of A R Rahman. In the song "Anbendra Mazhaiyile" from "Minsara Kanavu" ARR once again employs this raga, this time to evoke devotion and tranquility. Again in "Nadhiye Nadhiye" from the film "Rhythm", ARR has created a richly orchestrated masterpiece in Anandabhairavi.

Deva in the song "Konja Naal Poru Thalaiva" strikes gold with Anandabhairavi. Replete with gamakas, this song sung by Hariharan is an exemplary creation. Each phrase ends with a characteristic oscillation, for example "..thalaiva.." ends with a flourish in the pancama, while "..varuvaa.." ends with a grand gamaka in the gandhara.


It is challenging to compose commercial film songs in ragas such as Anandabhairavi that are so classical and structured. But those compositions that finally take shape truly stand the test of time.

Pancha bhootam is when expression of the elements with the properties and behavior patters but existing in harmony. With one and all with inherent balance and equilibrium. They reveal themselves to those who are knowledgable, dedicated and devoted and letting go! 


They reveal action is dependent on devotion and dedication, submission and withdrawal and a witness like attitude and is time and space bound with memory and forgetfulness and belief structure and lying thrown in a bit!


Command, demand, and a polite request may melt the heart! You know the techniques. Music melts the heart and mind, gives happiness, contentment and everything. Can you raise up to the occasion and perform ?


Approach, attitude, bhava, bhavia  bhavana are important. Feelings, emotions, and attitudes at the time of expression that communicate with true sincerity and simplicity before you open your mouth to communicate at every and any opportunity to communicate your thought and action, others are ready to watch, how and what you communicate. You may silently communicate,  others may pick up in their time, leisure, but you do not fail yourself to do this in your space and time!


Depth, life giving involvement (experience, beauty, sustenence ) how deep a root can go to find the life giving water, air, nerves,  feeling, anubhavam, azhagu, beauty, grace, stamina, strength, prolongation and twist in sangathis, kanñama in the end longing, the reality and continuation as dream, melodious, everlasting in feelings, the flow, the feeling, a thought in action, a pronunciation  of memory, Melancholy, life giving involvement, reflection in layers, even I did not get and I was not sure and afraid that I will not do full justice, the love and involvement you have demonstrated, is unique. Even I did not have! In the way of elongating saying of kannamma with love, affection, dedication and devotion as an offering, binding call.

To get bored is to lose capacity and capability to let go from preoccupation. Mythological origin of the swara


There is a fascinating mythological tale about the origin of the swaras, as follows:


It is believed that Lord Shiva once addressed a celestial congregation, for the welfare of mankind. While the subject of His address became the Vedas, the differences in His tonal quality became the seven swaras. Shiva is known to have five faces or the 'panchavaktra', which are, Satyojata, Vamaka, Tathpurusha, Isana and Aghora. He first addressed the audience  at the centre, and then the immediate left and right. The centre tone became the basic note or the shadja (sa), while the  ones on the immediate left and right became the 'ni' of the lower octave and 'ri' respectively.  Shiva then addressed the  audience to the far left and right. Here, two notes emanated out of each face, to reach to the farthest sides. So there  emanated the notes 'dha' and 'pa' of the lower octave on the left side and 'ga' and 'ma' on the right. This totalled to  seven swaras, Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha and Ni.

Pancha bhootam acting in coordinating, harmony, support. Tri dosha action in balance, eqilibrium, not fighting each other's influence and extremity, or border! Good blood flow, air flow, water distribution, nervous communication. Heat and cold distribution. Every organ bright to interact with the nature to contribute to gain.


The blood flowing with exuberance and energetic freshness, renewed energy, invigorating attitude renewed it's association with. Nature and every organ it meets afresh, never loses its freshness and energy to meet any task it's called upon to do. the nerves in the flesh communicate instantly as though fresh conduit full of passage, freedom and for ever learning  new communicasion even though for ever being threatened by forgetfulness and lack of memory.

 draws in! One is rich or poor depends on stations, preparation.


Surrender is more important. An attitude of obedience gives you what you think in life. Time and space devoid of end. Actions and results you foresee.


Understanding, clarity, action and experience come next. Faith and clarity in thinking are very important. Comes with blood flow, understanding and clarity!


Concentration, isight, deep understanding, clarity, direction.
